If schools want to reduce costs, it should not be at the expense of pupils. Rather it should be to their benefit, for example by installing a customised, intelligent lighting concept that aids their concentration. Refurbishing the lighting of an average-sized school with a 20-year-old lighting system offers potential energy savings of up to 76%, which could mean yearly cost savings of more than 400 euros per classroom. Very little effort is required, and the installation could be carried out quickly and easily at a convenient time (e.g. in the school holidays).
