The new Zoo & Co pet market in Kaiserslautern, Germany received a subsidy from the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA). The market, which opened in summer, offers a full range of live pets. In addition to traditional pet supplies, the focus is also on aquariums and ponds.

The light concept designed by Oktalite had to present the merchandise perfectly while being sustainable: to be eligible for a subsidy from the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), the power consumption could not exceed 12 watts per square meter.

This limit applied to the illumination, heat pumps and even the aquarium heating. With just 10.95 watts per square meter, this standard was met with ease. As Oktalite had already fitted out several pet supply outlets in the Zoo & Co group in cooperation with Sagaflor AG, the German cooperative of owner-operated garden, plant and pet supply businesses, the illumination expert was already familiar with the main issues.

The 1,190 square meter Zoo & Co market in Kaiserslautern, with its high ceilings and a large proportion of dailylight, presented special challenges. The entire sales floor is illuminated using the E-LINE LED strip light system. The maximum lumen package

was determined as 5500 lumens, with a light temperature of 3000 Kelvin. Between the aisles, a double-asymmetric light distribution makes for a high vertical illuminance at eye level, while the aisle itself receives a reduced illuminance.

The E-LINE in the main aisles and free spaces has a symmetrical-broad beam character. The new TARO spotlight stunningly lights up the aisle ends with a lumen packet of 4000 lumens and a light colour of 3000 Kelvins. Managing Director Christian Braun is pleased. “The sales floor makes an inviting and friendly overall impression. The accents are set at the right places and the energy efficiency is impressive.”

When asked why he chose Oktalite, Christian Braun replies, “Oktalite had already illuminated a lot of Zoo & Co stores, so it has a good reputation in the industry. The illumination plan submitted to me was ideal and their field staff provided competent and knowledgable consultation.”

Oktalite has been illuminating retail spaces for over 30 years. Having specialised in this field, oktalite creates lighting concepts, develops cutting-edge standardised and customised products and provides service and support.
