Light is magical: those who have visited the High Tatra (Poland/Slovakia) know all about the power of attraction of the ever-changing sunsets. The Grand Hotel Kempinski is situated at Lake Tschirm (Strbske Pleso) in the middle of the painterly mountain landscape at a height of 1351 metres.

The view of the mountain lake and the surrounding High Tatra region from the five star hotel is breathtaking.  The fundamental refurbishment of the former spa house with a 100 year tradition took a time of three years, and was carried out by the Munich offices of Cerno Architekten.

With the illumination of the renowned luxury hotel, TRILUX implemented an outdoor lighting concept that pays homage to the impressive surroundings in the smallest high mountain range in the world. The building complex fascinates not only the guests with its exclusive appearance; with the Slovakian architecture competition 'Building of the Year 2009' it won two prizes.

The sophisticated illumination surely made a contribution to winning the accolades. With the lighting of the Grand Hotel, nothing was left to chance: the basis for the lighting concept from TRILUX was the creation of a detailed, 3D computer model. In order to achieve the best possible result, those responsible defined in long discussions the architectural, photometric and formal-aesthetic aspects.

The decision was rapidly taken for a vertical emphasis of the impressive architecture. The Lumena spots installed feature a relatively narrow beam angle of ten degrees and illuminate the facade both from below and above. At night the 'luxury oasis' radiates in an accordingly three-dimensional, impressive way.
