Safety, sustainability, and international scalability: these are the core principles behind the partnership between lighting specialist TRILUX and Milence, the fast-growing player in the field of charging infrastructure for heavy-duty transport whose mission is to accelerate the transition to zero-emission heavy vehicles across Europe. The recently opened Charging Hub in Zwolle, Netherlands is the first tangible result of a partnership built on shared ambitions, technical precision, and trust.
Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Amsterdam, Milence is rapidly working toward establishing a European network of more than one hundred charging locations for electric trucks within just a few years. To achieve these ambitious goals, the company sought a lighting partner that could provide not only high-quality solutions but also operate in a scalable, international, and sustainable way. Milence found that partner in TRILUX.
“From the very first contact, we noticed a strong cultural and substantive match,” says Timo Kraus, International Key Account Manager at TRILUX. “Both companies share a clear sustainability vision. At TRILUX, we are aiming to constantly improve light for people and the environment, this is a core value that perfectly aligns with Milence’s mission to make the future of road transport fossil-free.”
The collaboration began with the location in Zwolle, where TRILUX developed the complete lighting plan and supplied the lighting poles, mounting accessoires and the Lumena luminaires. The lighting is designed to ensure that drivers charging their vehicles and resting feel safe, comfortable, and have a clear overview. Everything complies with the guidelines Milence follows for secure truck parking areas. Guidelines that focus on ensuring the safety and security of the parking areas and surrounding premises.
“Although the initial requirements were relatively basic, together with Milence we explored how we could structurally raise the bar,” says Kraus. “We actively contributed ideas on how lighting could enhance safety, energy efficiency, and user experience. The result is a blueprint that’s flexible enough for customization yet standardized enough for rollout across Europe.”
One of the biggest challenges for Milence was finding a partner that could not only deliver quality solutions but also had the operational capacity to implement them quickly and reliably across multiple countries. Thanks to TRILUX’s international supply chain and strong partner network, including close collaboration with installer Hamer for the site in Zwolle, the project ran smoothly.
TRILUX’s Lighting Design department played a crucial role in this process. With all the requirements and guidelines from Milence in hand, they managed to create a plan where every aspect of the lighting fully met expectations.
The Charging Hub in Zwolle is the first in a series of locations where TRILUX, as supplier, will provide the lighting. Kraus on this: “For Milence, it’s about no-regret solutions: partners and products you’ll never regret choosing. The fact that we’ve earned this status underlines both the quality we deliver and the relationship we’ve built together.”
The collaboration between TRILUX and Milence doesn’t stop in Zwolle. Several upcoming locations are already being considered for implementation of the same blueprint, adapted to local conditions. Thanks to short communication lines, a shared vision, and proven executional strength, both parties are ready to scale up further. “This is not just a project,” concludes Kraus. “This is a partnership where we’re building the infrastructure of the future together.”
