Blättler Holzbau

Blättler Holzbau GmbH combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and high standards of architecture and design.

Since its founding in 1961, the family-owned business has evolved from a traditional timber construction firm into a company with comprehensive expertise in all aspects of modern timber construction. Accordingly, its own office and administrative building was to be designed to be open, bright, and architecturally clear—characterized by the material wood and reflecting a modern, forward-looking company. TRILUX Switzerland was brought into the project on the recommendation of electrical partner EW-Elektro Widmer AG and interior design firm 85d. Through close collaboration between the timber construction, interior design, electrical, and lighting design teams, the lighting and architecture were optimally coordinated.

The Interplay of Lighting Technology, Wood, and Architecture

Wood was chosen as the primary material—and the lighting was intended to deliberately highlight it. The goal was a warm, calm lighting atmosphere that complements the material and architecture while creating a pleasant working environment. “Lighting can achieve far more than just brightness. A room takes on a different character when you use the right light colour and the appropriate type of luminaire,” explains Joe Blättler, Managing Director of Blättler Holzbau GmbH. A particular challenge was integrating the lighting technology as seamlessly as possible into the wooden architecture. To achieve this, lighting lines, luminaire geometries, and mounting points were precisely tailored to the wooden modules.

One Light Channel, Many Applications

The Finea light channel plays a central role in the lighting concept. It is used in offices, open-plan areas, the exhibition area, and the stairwell, among other places. Thanks to various mounting options, the system could be flexibly adapted to the specific spatial conditions. Its cross-functional use creates a consistent design language in terms of lighting. In addition, the light channel’s linear form complements the architectural structures without competing with them. Finea is complemented, among other things, by Sonnos in meeting and lounge areas, as well as by custom-designed ring lights from Monolicht in the entrance and exhibition areas. Emergency lighting and exterior lighting near the building (Skeo) were also part of the overall concept. For Joe Blättler, this breadth of offerings was a key selection criterion in the search for a lighting partner.

Low-maintenance, upgradeable, and adaptable

The long-term perspective was also important to Blättler: The lighting should function reliably, require little maintenance, and be capable of future upgrades. Long-term availability of the system was also a priority. After about a year of use, his assessment is positive . Employees continue to enjoy the lighting and the possibilities it offers in the various areas.
