Porsche Esports Performance Centers

Iconic training centre for virtual motorsport

Arnsberg/Cologne, May 2025 – With the opening of the Porsche Esports Performance Center (PEPC) on 6 May 2025, Porsche Motorsport is setting new standards in digital racing. The state-of-the-art training centre on the grounds of the TRILUX Light Campus in Cologne is the result of the close collaboration between the two partners, which began in 2024 with the sponsorship of the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team. The 324 m² venue combines technological precision with architectural sophistication and innovative lighting design - customised for the requirements of virtual motorsport.

A workspace with club character

Cologne-based GAARKO Gablik Architektur is responsible for the architectural design of the PEPC, the lighting concept comes from the Berlin lighting designers jack be nimble. TRILUX took over the realisation of the lighting design and thus made a decisive contribution to the creation of an extraordinary training environment for virtual motorsport. It was clear from the outset that this centre was to be much more than just a workplace. It was to be a place that combines sport, communication, and creative exchange. The design combines raw industrial architecture with ultra-modern performance. The PEPC embodies the strength and tradition of an established brand on the one hand - and agility, youthful freshness, and cosmopolitanism on the other.

"We wanted to create spaces in which our team can perform even better," explains Nina Braack, Manager Esports at Porsche Motorsport. "Because the physical element in digital motorsport is lower than in 'tarmac motorsport', the mental aspect is even more important. Light reflections or background noise, for example, can affect the athletes' performance." The interior has also been specially tailored to the young, digital-savvy esports scene. "The centre is not designed as a classic workplace but rather has the atmosphere of a modern club with a lounge character. A new creative centre has been created at the TRILUX Light Campus that inspires and promotes a collaborative experience," says Joachim Geiger, CSO & CMO at TRILUX.

At the centre of the PEPC are six professional racing simulators with an attached workstation for the race engineer. The area is complemented by meeting and lounge zones, desk workstations and a fitness area - for the athletes' holistic preparation.

Esports, light and architecture - together in pole position

As soon as you enter the PEPC, it is clear: racing takes centre stage. The centrepiece of the lighting concept is a 50-metre-long light installation that winds its way along the ceiling like an abstract racetrack. It symbolises speed, competition and lightness and creates a connection between the different areas of use. The TRILUX LiveLink light management system not only allows the light colour of the built-in RGBW strips to be flexibly varied - if desired, two points of light can also compete in a visual race along the track.

The illumination of the central simulator area posed a particular challenge - because virtual motorsport places its own highly specialised demands on the lighting: low light levels, absolute absence of glare, and zero reflections. The six racing simulators are located under a striking ceiling construction reminiscent of an oversized cooling fan. Finea light channels with diffuse covers were installed between the louvre-like "rotor blades". Equipped with Human Centric Lighting (HCL), they produce a pleasant natural light that can be dimmed down to one per cent - for maximum concentration and a focused training atmosphere in the dark, if desired.

Sophisticated lighting concept consistently implemented

The lighting design in the other areas of the PEPC also follows the high design and functional standards. In the entrance area, a striking So-Tube installation welcomes visitors and sets the first visual accent. Sonnos downlights provide the basic lighting and create a lively ceiling image with an exciting depth effect - partly suspended and partly as a surface-mounted version. The filigree Rail track with flush-mounted linear inserts and Lenty Mini spotlights is used in the fitness area. Above the desk workstations, the Yonos system with Convision optics ensures optimum visual conditions and Lenty spots in the system brighten up the walls vertically. All lighting solutions are networked with the TRILUX LiveLink light management system and are controlled via the LiveLink One App.

"Thanks to the breadth of our portfolio and our design expertise, we were able to perfectly translate the sophisticated lighting concept into lighting reality," summarises Karsten Müller, Managing Director TRILUX Vertrieb GmbH and Director Architectural.
