An inspiring workplace

Designed with attention to the smallest details

At the new Simac headquarters in Veldhoven, everything revolves around smart technology, collaboration and comfort. Together with installer Kuijpers, a future-proof office with a matching lighting design was realized in record time. “We wanted a building that shows what we are capable of,” says Bas van Tilborg, executive board member of Simac’s parent company. “Light plays a key role in that.”

Showcase of technology

In October 2024, Simac moved into the former, iconic TechniekHuys in Veldhoven. Not a new-build, but a thorough transformation of an existing building with one goal: a modern, sustainable workplace in which Simac technologies, such as a fully wireless smart building management system from Mymesh, come to life. “Our new headquarters is a showcase. For our customers, but also for ourselves,” Van Tilborg explains. “Everything we experience here, we use every day in the solutions we provide to our customers.”

Lighting is one of the visible showpieces. With Mymesh wireless lighting control integrated into high-quality LED luminaires from TRILUX, the system offers much more than light alone. It connects data, comfort and energy efficiency into one smart ecosystem.

From daylight to data

The new lighting plan had to be realized quickly, but with a clear vision. “We had no more than eight months between receiving the keys and moving in,” Van Tilborg explains. “Then you have to act fast.” TRILUX proposed a clear plan, including functional Finea pendant luminaires for office areas, stylish and sleek Sonnos downlights and a 3-phase track rail with B.veo surface-mounted spotlights for the more decorative parts of the building.

A crucial element was the integration of Mymesh to automatically adjust lighting based on daylight and occupancy. And that’s just the beginning. “Our sensors also measure humidity, light and noise levels, temperature and the number of people in a room,” says Van Tilborg. “We use that data not only to control the lighting, but also the indoor climate.”

For example? “If only two people are in a meeting room, we don’t need to ventilate as if there were ten. Thanks to Mymesh, this is controlled automatically. That saves energy and improves comfort.”

Comfort that works

Simac deliberately chose Human Centric Lighting (HCL) – not only in the workspaces, but even in the parking garage and stairwells. “The comfort of our people comes first,” says Van Tilborg. “We have many different types of spaces with varying levels of natural daylight. With HCL we can balance that, and it truly makes a difference.”

In some cases, adding HCL required customization. “Our secondary workspaces consist of standalone Rofa units that originally did not support HCL. You could keep it simple, but we chose to develop a custom lighting solution together with TRILUX. That caused a few months’ delay for those units, but now everything fits perfectly. I’m very happy we made that choice.”

Smart choices, flexible future

Together with its construction partners, Simac not only implemented smart lighting in the former TechniekHuys, but also a smart layout. The interior layout of the building changed so much that the previous positioning of luminaires no longer made sense. With the move to the new location, Simac simultaneously introduced flexible working: no fixed desks, but shared spaces based on need. Thanks to data from the lighting and sensor system, room usage can be continuously monitored and optimized where necessary.

“We know exactly which rooms are used and when,” says Van Tilborg. “And that offers opportunities. If a space is structurally unused, we can redesign it. Because everything is wireless, we can easily reposition the luminaires without any drilling or demolition. Just regroup them and it’s done.” Even cleaning or room reservation routines can be automatically adjusted based on real usage. Now that’s efficient.

Fast delivery through smooth collaboration

The partnership with TRILUX went very well, Van Tilborg emphasizes: “The pace of our renovation was high, but we were able to align instantly. Thanks to the clear architectural drawings and TRILUX’s pragmatic approach, the lighting concept turned out exactly as we envisioned.” By starting the renovation on the top floor and working downwards step by step, the installation could take place in phases. “TRILUX adapted seamlessly.”

A result worth showing

The feedback from colleagues has been very positive. The light ‘doesn’t stand out’ exactly as intended. Van Tilborg notices it himself: “I work at the office more than before. Not only because of the building itself, but because of the pleasant atmosphere and interaction it creates. The lighting definitely plays a role in that.”

During the official opening, the building was proudly presented to customers. “It’s great to see how impressed visitors are. They immediately get a clear picture of what we can offer. And that’s what it's really about: inspiring people.” Van Tilborg concludes with a valuable tip: “Pay attention to the details. Trust me, they matter. More than you think. If you have the chance to do something really well, then do it. We’re glad we made that choice.”
