The Swiss technology group Bühler AG is the world's leading supplier of machines and systems for processing grain, food and high-tech materials. Around 2,500 employees work at the headquarters in Uzwil and over 12,300 worldwide. Our task: to refurbish the lighting in the impressive Customer Centre - and to implement a lighting concept for the newly built Milling Academy. We were able to contribute the entire range of our portfolio for office and industrial applications as well as our particular expertise in the area of special luminaires.
Bühler AG maintains a large number of facilities and buildings on a campus-like site in Uzwil. These include eight application centres for different industries, an Energy Centre, the CUBIC Innovation Campus for research and the Milling Academy as a practice-oriented training facility with its own foam mill. We implemented the lighting for the Customer Centre on the campus back in 2009. Bühler AG once again relied on TRILUX for the modernisation that has now been completed. There was also an exciting new building project - the development and realisation of a lighting concept for the new Milling Academy on the campus. The core requirements in both cases: excellent lighting quality, maximum efficiency for greater sustainability and an attractive design that fits in with Bühler AG as an international technology group.
The 2,100 m2 Customer Centre is the first port of call for customers, partners, visitors and guests. With state-of-the-art meeting rooms, retreat areas and a café, it offers the perfect infrastructure for conferences, workshops and customer meetings. The lighting emphasises the unique character of the architecture with lots of glass, light-coloured ceilings and floors. The ambient lighting is provided by Polaron IQ recessed spotlights installed flush with the ceiling, reminiscent of a swarm of glowing UFOs. Their irregular arrangement structures the space, connects areas and guides you through the building. As part of the refurbishment, the existing luminaires were replaced with the latest generation of Polaron IQ luminaires. Particularly practical: thanks to a special housing that we developed for the project, we were able to utilise the existing ceiling cut-outs. We also ensure optimum visual conditions in all other areas - in offices, for example, with Opendo LED as a surface-mounted luminaire with UGR < 19 for VDU work.
The ambience in the Milling Academy is much more industrial, but just as impressive. At the centre of the new 2,900 m2 building is a fully functional foam mill for practical experiments, demonstrations and training courses. The rooms are dominated by huge grinding mills and a technical infrastructure with white-painted and silver pipes and cables. A light-coloured wooden ceiling provides a warm counterpoint to the rough industrial atmosphere. Bühler AG was looking for an attractive lighting solution that would prove its worth in this demanding environment thanks to its efficiency, high quality of light and protection class. An indirect light component was also required to brighten up the ceiling. And our Tugra is one of the luminaires on the market that simultaneously offers a high protection rating and an indirect component. It was realised as a suspended linear light line with IP66. The luminaires were networked, connected to the existing building management system and combined with an emergency lighting solution from Inotec. The result is a perfectly illuminated, highly functional and equally prestigious industrial landscape.
