A recent project with Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG – Unternehmensgruppe demonstrates just how easy it is to modernise car park lighting using LiveLink SwarmSens. In the underground car park beneath the Congress Centrum, outdated 58-watt fluorescent lamps were replaced with an energy-efficient LED solution. We recommended a 1:1 replacement with Aragon Fit and LiveLink SwarmSens - and delivered double value. Not only did the Stadtwerke team approve the solution, but they handed the entire refurbishment over to apprentice electricians as a real-world learning project, thanks to the ease of installation.
LiveLink SwarmSens is designed to make smart lighting easy to deploy, perfect for retrofitting car parks and stairwells with up to 4,069 light points with minimal effort. A unique selling point of LiveLink SwarmSens is its simple installation. All the sensors (daylight and presence) are built into the luminaires. Configuration is done via the SwarmSens app, where you can fine-tune light intensity, base lighting, activation durations, and sensitivity settings. Basic programming can also be done directly on the controller for projects where app access isn't ideal.
"Thanks to the simple configuration and commissioning, smart lighting can be implemented with minimal effort, even in cost-sensitive projects," explains project manager Thomas Roberts, Solution Manager Light Management TRILUX.
What made this project stand out was the hands-on approach. As there was no time pressure, apprentices refurbished the 450 luminaires during regular operations. After a short training session at TRILUX HQ in Arnsberg, the team was fully equipped for the job. "The installation was relatively simple. After the power supply to the old lights was switched off, we simply removed and dismantled them. We fitted the adapters supplied by TRILUX for the new luminaires without any problems. The wireless connectivity between fittings made a huge difference, and the programming was quick and intuitive,” says Mihály, an apprentice electronics technician at Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG – Unternehmensgruppe.
The Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG Group is very satisfied with the result – both in terms of efficiency and user experience. Energy consumption has been cut by 85%, and the new Aragon Fit luminaires create a more welcoming, brighter environment. Their translucent diffuser and wide-beam optics produce a soft ceiling glow that reduces the typical “cave effect” found in underground car parks.
"The new installation offers a much higher level of brightness. In addition, the partial lighting approach is not only visually appealing, it also avoids unnecessary energy use by preventing the entire space being lit at once adds Aaron Czogalla, Team Leader Technical Maintenance Management / General Construction and Refurbishment at Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG - Group of Companies.
Not only do the visitors to the underground car park like the new lighting scheme, but the project also benefits the trainees. As of January 2025, lighting management is officially part of the national training curriculum for electronics technicians in energy, building, and automation technology. With this project, the apprentices have proven their skills – in both theory and practice.
