Optimising energy efficiency is one of the key tasks in facility management. And lighting plays a crucial role. The savings potential of an LED refurbishment depends on the building’s architecture and how the space is used. But regardless of the specifics, replacing conventional incandescent lamps, fluorescent tubes or halogen lamps with an energy-efficient LED solution and light management can cut energy consumption by up to 85 per cent. Our simple online tool makes it easy to calculate individual savings potential.
Energy Savings Calculator
In office buildings, average electricity consumption is 40 - 70 kWh/m2 per year. Lighting accounts for around 50 per cent of this - followed by electronic devices such as photocopiers (15%), PC monitors (15%) and computers (8%). This makes office lighting the area with the greatest savings potential. LEDs now achieve efficiencies of around 200 lm/W, outperforming incandescent and halogen lamps (10–20 lm/W) and fluorescent tubes (50–100 lm/W). On average, LED refurbishment can halve the power consumption of office lighting. When combined with lighting management systems and sensors for daylight and presence detection total savings of up to 85 per cent are possible.
The situation in production, storage and logistics halls is quite similar. Many high-ceilinged halls are still lit with mercury vapour lamps, with low efficiencies of just 35–60 lm/W. Metal halide lamps (70–100 lm/W) and sodium vapour lamps (80–120 lm/W) perform slightly better but suffer from poor colour rendering. Here too, refurbishing with LED lighting and management systems offers a powerful way to improve efficiency. High-performance TRILUX solutions such as the Mirona Fit high-bay spotlight (187 lm/W) and the E-Line Pro continuous-row system (up to 207 lm/W) deliver significant energy reductions. Depending on the existing system, savings of up to 85 per cent are achievable.
The actual savings from an LED refurbishment always depends on the specific project conditions. The TRILUX Energy Savings Calculator makes it quick and easy to calculate the potential of your project. After entering a few details - such as the area of application, existing lighting and electricity price - the programme automatically calculates the annual savings from an LED refurbishment, either with or without a lighting management system. The tool also indicates the annual reduction inCO2 emissions. This enables project managers to quickly and easily estimate the extent to which energy consumption and costs will be reduced by LED refurbishment.
