Delivering performance and expanding collaboration: TRILUX have been working with the international car park operator Q-Park on lighting projects for some time. Following the successful partnership, a strategic agreement was signed at the end of November 2023. Since then, we have been refurbishing 188 car parks across seven countries with energy-efficient, smart LED lighting as a full-service provider. To ensure an effective rollout process and optimal results, we developed a lighting refurbishment concept that flexibly adapts to each site's diverse architecture and technology. At the heart of the concept are Aragon Fit and Oleveon Fit moisture-proof luminaires, paired with the LiveLink lighting management system.
Q-Park operates more than 3,600 car parks across Europe. At some locations, the lighting systems were no longer state-of-the-art. Q-Park was looking for a full-service partner to modernise its lighting infrastructure - aiming to improve the quality of light and user comfort while reducing energy costs with smart LED lighting.
The refurbishment programme included multi-storey car parks with conventional, outdated lighting, properties with first-generation LED technology and new extension projects. "As the properties vary greatly in technology, construction and size, we developed a flexible refurbishment concept to adapt to each location," explains Sven Busch, International Key Account Manager at TRILUX. The concept is based on Aragon Fit and Oleveon Fit moisture-proof luminaires and a tailored light management system from the LiveLink family.
Car parks present a challenge in lighting with their low ceiling heights and often angled architecture. To deliver optimal visual conditions, We have developed a wide-beam Aragon Fit lens for the Q-Park project to deliver optimal visual conditions. Despite its low mounting heights, it ensures excellent illumination of the space - and due to high demand, it has now been added to the standard TRILUX portfolio.
Another factor for creating a friendly and open ambience is illuminating the ceiling, which enlarges the perception of space and reduces the typical "cave effect" often found in multi-storey car parks. For this reason, Aragon Fit is used in many locations with translucent housing, enabling indirect light emission to the ceiling for a more pleasant illumination.
To reduce energy costs without compromising users' sense of safety, each site was assessed individually to determine whether lighting management makes sense - and if so, which system would best fit. We offered the complete LiveLink portfolio, from simple sensor control to the freely scalable LiveLink Premium for large-scale projects.
In most cases, LiveLink SwarmSens proved to be the optimal choice. Its wireless networking via radio integrated presence, and daylight sensors made it easy to refurbish. Smart functions such as ‘light that runs ahead’ can be quickly and easily activated without programming or a server connection.
As a full-service provider, TRILUX have also taken on the maintenance for all 188 car parks, backed by a five-year maintenance contract with Q-Park. This is delivered via local partner companies from our international network.
Like Q-Park, we are delighted with the result. The refurbishment has significantly improved the user experience and sense of safety in the car parks. Enhanced quality of light also reduces the risk of accidents, break-ins, and vandalism. Above all, the new smart systems deliver major energy savings. While the actual energy reduction depends on the specific conditions of each site, lighting calculations and comparative analyses indicate savings of up to 70% with the LED upgrade.
