CO2 Savings
As a pioneer in environmentally friendly heating using renewable energy, the Austrian family-owned company Hargassner has been developing and selling innovative heating technology solutions centred around wood fuel for over forty years. The expansion of its site in Weng im Innkreis also focussed on energy efficiency, sustainability and regional sourcing. This is why Hargassner chose wood - a renewable and natural building material - for its newly planned five-storey employee car park. Our smart and energy-efficient Deveo Fit luminaires provide optimal lighting and low operating costs to match.
It is the largest timber-constructed car park in Central Europe. Hargassner built a sustainable new structure offering around 500 parking spaces to increase parking capacity at the Weng site. The five-storey, multi-storey car park has a gross floor area of 13,500 m2 and consists of two bays, each with five levels, connected by a mezzanine floor. A key design feature was that only the access ramps, stairwells, gable walls, and the diagonal bracing in the eaves were built using solid construction. All other elements -including supports, ceiling and roof beams, as well as ceiling and roof panels- are made of wood. More than 2,200 cubic metres of timber were used, all sourced locally to support regional sustainability. "Thanks to the sustainable timber construction, we have saved around 4,600 tonnes of CO2 compared to a conventional car park," says Florian Pommer, Project Manager at Hargassner.
Hargassner also placed great importance on sustainability in the lighting design. We already provide excellent illumination in the production area with 500 Ondo high-bay luminaires, and we were also impressed with our lighting concept for the multi-storey car park. Around 300 dimmable Deveo Fit moisture-proof luminaires were installed. These luminaires were networked, integrated with sensors, and connected to the existing building management system for control and monitoring. Another practical feature is the Lambertian light distribution, which creates a subtle ceiling illumination that perfectly highlights the wooden ceilings. "The multi-storey car park is a highly visible statement of sustainable construction, demonstrating how aesthetics, regionality and environmental awareness can be perfectly combined," explains Stefan Neumann, project manager at TRILUX, who implemented the project with Hargassner.
