R-Café Möhnesee

A shining jewel on the lake

Since June 2025, there has been a new gastronomic hotspot at Lake Möhne in the Sauerland region: the R-Café restaurant chain, which is part of the Extrablatt Group, operates a total of eight locations in northern and western Germany. The latest addition: the former "Pier 20" on Lake Möhnesee, which Peter Sachnik, Managing Director of the R-Café in Neheim, has taken over. The restaurant and adjoining areas were extensively renovated, modernised and furnished in line with the corporate identity. The lighting is an important design element in the overall concept, with atmospheric light in the interior and exterior areas and an attractively staged building with a long-distance effect and appeal.

Long-distance effect of the façade

Thanks to its premium location directly on the lakeside promenade, the R-Café Möhnesee is already visible from afar. But in the evening, the atmospheric façade lighting gives it a special attraction. "One challenge was to perfectly stage the building in terms of lighting without the façade appearing "overlit" when viewed from close up," explains Andreas Plikun, Key Account Manager TRILUX, who realised the project. The perfect solution: our Osido wall light. It is available in square and rectangular versions and provides atmospherically illuminated tables and benches on the large high terrace with outdoor catering . They are supported by 8841 bollard luminaires, which also provide path lighting around the café. A major advantage of the Osido-series is the innovative mounting concept: thanks to Plug&Play , the luminaires can be installed without tools and in no time at all - a decisive advantage, especially when there are many light points. For perfect results, the luminous intensity and beam characteristics of the direct and indirect components have been individually matched to the area of application. The 6° angled LED board directs the light precisely onto the façade and reduces the amount of scattered light in the upper half-space.

Smart steles in the car park

As many guests come from outside by car, Peter Sachnik has created around 80 new parking spaces around the R-Café. Our ConStela19 light columns provide the right light and ambience in the car parks near the buildings - and score points with their modular design. The ConStela19 can be flexibly equipped with a wide range of smart modules . To showcase the façade from the car park and illuminate the path, spotlight modules were integrated into some of the columns. Another part of the columns was equipped with camera modules to monitor the car parks . Data is transmitted via the café's Wi-Fi, which extends into the car park. In addition, 8841 bollard luminaires are used on the paths and Jovie pole-mounted luminaires on the more distant car parks.

Atmosphere for the guests

The inviting atmosphere outside continues seamlessly into the interior. The furnishing concept is based on the classic corporate design of the R-Cafés: lots of wood, many colours in anthracite and light-coloured walls. Only the vibrant green of the R-Café has been replaced by a slightly paler colour. In this environment, lighting not only has to fulfil functional tasks - such as easy-to-read menus. It becomes a central design element that characterises the atmosphere in the room through the lighting effect and the luminaire design. One component of the overall concept is the Varisto ring chandelier, which is positioned in the centre between two rectangular light installations. With a diameter of 1.5 metres, it balances the room and gives it a centre. R-Café Managing Director Peter Sachnik is delighted with the overall result: "Especially in autumn and winter, when it gets dark early, the R-Café has a special appeal thanks to the lighting effect - and thanks to the high efficiency of the LED solutions, the operating costs are extremely low."
