When you think of lotteries, you picture roulette balls, playing cards and flashing machines. But behind this colourful world of games, another part is just as vital: the administration. This is where the Austrian Lotteries refurbishment comes in — and where TRILUX supported the project as the partner for lighting solutions.
For over 50 years, Austrian Lotteries has been synonymous with gambling, betting and entertainment at the highest level. These standards are now reflected in the company’s new offices. In recent years, they have been extensively modernised, with energy efficiency and sustainability as key priorities. To ensure that the lighting also met these standards, TRILUX opted for a pioneering lighting solution. The result is far more than just a visual update.
Traditional fixed workstations have been transformed into an open and flexible office landscape in the style of the New Office. In workshops, employees and management developed a shared desk concept. The result is multifunctional, open-plan areas with height-adjustable desks, complemented by special spaces such as a play zone, gallery café and library. The office has become a place of interaction where spatial concepts and working models can adapt to changing needs.
Wolfgang Dvoracek, member of the TRILUX Austria management team, explains how lighting design played a central role: "It ensures optimum working conditions and shapes the communal areas, so they invite people to linger and socialise."
Another key aim was to significantly reduce energy consumption while creating a modern, pleasant lighting ambience. The previous lighting consisted of outdated fluorescent tubes, which TRILUX replaced with modern LED systems. This not only reduced electricity uses but also delivered a timeless, architecturally harmonious lighting design that meets all the requirements of everyday working life - from precise illumination of workstations to atmospheric islands of light in meeting and break areas.
A particular highlight of the project is the use of around 200 Luceos LED free-standing luminaires with Swarm technology. This intelligent control system automatically adjusts the light intensity: when one luminaire is fully activated, nearby luminaires gently dim. The open-plan office therefore remains evenly illuminated, with no harsh contrasts or dark zones.
This boosts visual comfort and saves energy at the same time. Swarm technology fits seamlessly into the New Office approach, where workspaces, retreats and communication zones are smoothly interlinked. The concept is supported by Luceos LED pendant luminaires in meeting rooms, Onplanas downlights in the telephone booths and Lenty Track spotlights in the kitchens and meeting zones.
Just like Austrian Lotteries, TRILUX places great value on partnership-based collaboration. For this reason, the TRILUX team ensured they were always available to fine-tune the lighting control system. Wolfgang Dvoracek: "If necessary, we were also available outside of regular working hours. The perfect coordination of the lighting played a key role in the success of the project."
The Austrian Lotteries refurbishment stands as a flagship project for TRILUX Austria. It showcases the pioneering use of Swarm technology and, with the switch from fluorescent tubes to LED, underlines another core TRILUX value: sustainability.
