In the heart of Bristol’s vibrant commercial district, adjacent to Temple Meads Station, stands One Portwall Square—a groundbreaking office development prioritising post-COVID occupant wellbeing and sustainability. TRILUX was pivotal in providing a comprehensive lighting solution for this award-winning project.
Boasting contemporary architecture, flexible floorplates, and a dedication to natural light and ventilation, One Portwall Square is a six-story haven meticulously crafted by construction specialist Skanska. Recognised with the prestigious 2023 BCO National Award for Best Commercial Workplace, the building exemplifies a commitment to human-centric design and sustainability.
Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), One Portwall Square extends beyond its sleek facade to offer a sanctuary of spaciousness and light. Covering 33,767 square feet across six floors, each featuring its own verdant terrace, the concept centres around occupant wellbeing. Sustainability is woven into the fabric of the building, earning certifications such as BREEAM Excellent, EPC Rating ‘A’, Wired Score Platinum, and Active Score Platinum.
One Portwall Square is a successful fusion of contemporary design and innovative, efficient technology—celebrating human wellbeing and environmental responsibility.
TRILUX, the technical lighting experts, played a pivotal role in bringing the architects’ vision to life. Their one-stop lighting package aligned seamlessly with the design brief, focusing on sustainability, wellbeing, and efficiency. From the welcoming ambience of the reception to the task-oriented illumination of office spaces, emergency lighting, and controls systems, TRILUX’s contribution was integral. The lighting scheme featured E-LINE continuous row system, Sonnos downlights, and B.VEO track ensuring a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.
Picture stepping into an office illuminated to 350 lux, effortlessly adjusting to the ebb and flow of the day. The strategic lighting design maximises natural light, reducing dependence on artificial lighting.
Daylight Autonomy Standards are met in over 54% of the space, ensuring efficiency; even on cloudy days, smart lighting with presence detection minimises wastage and adapts to occupancy levels, contributing to a sustainable and energy-efficient workspace.
A centralised lighting management and reporting system further enhances efficiency, allowing for remote monitoring and fault rectification. The system is connected to TRILUX UK’s remote access solution, which allows Trilux engineers to check the system, and make remote changes as and when is necessary.
