LED savings in industry – 2.2 billion euros possible each year

Refurbishing obsolete lighting installations certainly pays: thanks to the high energy efficiency of LED solutions, EU-wide savings of around 2.2 billion euros per year can be achieved according to a survey by McKinsey management consultants.

What is your personal “Where there is light, there is life” moment?

The day starts with the sunrise and ends with the sunset. For me there is not a single moment that captures our motto “Where there is light, there is life” – I experience it every day. Light is the main influence on why we live our daily life the way we do and affects everything. Light has the power to lighten up our mood, on the downside the absence of it drains on our happiness and energy. This applies to both - natural light and the artificial lighting we create. Both have the same effects – a moment can only be fully enjoyed if light is well designed for a specific place or purpose.

In 1879, Thomas Edison invented the first incandescent lamp suitable for lighting purposes. Since then, what do you think has been the most important invention?

That question is very easy for me to answer. The most important one has to be the discovery by three Japanese scientists that go by the names Isamu Akasani, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura: The blue LED’s. Rightly they received a Nobel Prize in physics for this breakthrough. This invention had a huge effect on the lighting world and on technology in general. Blue LED’s are used in common products like LED tv screens, screens for computers or even smartphones – items we use every day. That is what makes that invention something tangible for everyone in their daily life.

You can wish for a project for the anniversary. What have you always wanted to illuminate, what do you decide to do?

To celebrate the anniversary, I like the idea of a “light event”. An event that can enhance and celebrate TRILUX in the best way possible. I would like everyone to come together and understand the characteristics and emotions that you can create and release through light. I would like all the attendees to involve in a unique experience that will evoke emotions thanks to the strength and the power of light.
