The architecture of the provincial building in Maastricht is highly unusual. The governmental headquarters of the province of Limburg is monumental and cubic and has an unforgettable building structure.

The overall ensemble consists of 23 individual buildings connected together.  Some sections were built into the Maas, and this also serves to emphasise the highly interesting architecture. The lighting concept was specified so that floodlighting emphasises the cubic and monumental building style. Important building sections such as the assembly room and entrance area are more conspicuously illuminated to

underline the hierarchy of the building structure. The highly noticeable towers function as associative elements to be accented with light as appealing eye-catchers. Concluding building sections are illuminated with warmer colour temperatures in order to frame the complete complex. A total of over 600 light points create atmospheric lighting of the building that positively benefits the cityscape in nocturnal hours both from the river bank and from the road side.
