At the end of 2022, the newest distribution center of fashion brand Scotch & Soda, located at the President business park in Hoofddorp (The Netherlands), was completed. Scotch & Soda is expanding its activities from the new building, which is located next to the existing location in the adjacent business park. The new building is equipped with 16 loading docks as well as a large office. The building has vegetable terraces on both sides and there is parking space for 100 cars under the building. In close cooperation with the end customer and installer Kromwijk Elektrotechniek, TRILUX provided all lighting and light management solutions from a single source in accordance with the BREEAM and WELL guidelines.

Strong partnership

Raymond van Dijken (Sales Manager at TRILUX Benelux) has been closely involved in the project together with the installer. Raymond explains: “We have provided this distribution center with an intelligent lighting solution in collaboration with Kromwijk Elektrotechniek and were able to supply everything from a single source, including the hall, the offices, the parking garage, and the outdoor lighting. To be able to meet the requirements of BREEAM and WELL we have decided to execute this project through a partnership.”

Raymond continues: “From the start, we have worked with Kromwijk to jointly get a clear picture of the end customer’s wishes. With this information, we went to the drawing board and worked out the lighting concept completely from scratch. We were able to supply all luminaires for this project. We have installed our highly efficient light line system E-LINE NEXT in the hall, the robust waterproof solution ARAGON FIT in the parking garage, the JOVIE in the outdoor areas and various functional and design luminaires in the offices and traffic areas.”

Flexible intelligence

“In addition, we were able to equip the distribution center with our LIVELINK Premium light management system,” says van Dijken. “In this way, all luminaires are linked in an intelligent system to ensure maximum energy savings and to maintain flexibility during operation. For example, we have brought overcapacity into the building by planning luminaires that can actually deliver more lux to the work surface than necessary. We have dimmed these luminaires back, using our LiveLink system to extend their lifespan. Therefore, we were able to assemble and commission all of this in collaboration with Kromwijk Elektrotechniek.”

High sustainability ambitions

This project was characterized by the wish to acquire a WELL and BREEAM certification. Because of this, other and higher-quality parameters apply to the lighting plan. These parameters exceed the standard requirements for workplace lighting. Raymond explains: “Our experts and project leaders have a lot of experience with these certification methods in the field of sustainable construction. We were able to support the installer in asking the right questions to realize a complete plan in accordance with all the wishes and requirements. This ensured a highly efficient way of working during the execution of the project. It also enabled us to ensure that the right decisions were made from the very first start of the process and prevented us from being faced with unpleasant surprises later on.”

“I am looking back on this project with satisfaction. We have successfully completed everything and have shown great cooperation in the triangle between the installer and end customer. Despite the turbulent market, everything was delivered on time and both the installer, and the end user are very satisfied with the new building,” concludes van Dijken.
