Kapsarc

The KAPSARC (King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center) in Saudi Arabia researches social framework conditions and basic technologies for the ecological and economic application of energy.

The campus designed by Zaha Hadid Architects focuses on modularity and connects five buildings and various courtyards. All buildings are based on hexagonal and prismatic structures. Office for Visual Interaction (OVI) from New York planned partly suspended and partly recessed light lines referencing these expressive geometries, tracing these in a planar way or along their contours. Several luminaires with linear cuboid forms were suspended to represent a modern interpretation of a giant chandelier.
