Telekom Düsseldorf Flagship Store

Lighting Worlds for the Perfect Brand Image

As a long-standing lighting partner of Deutsche Telekom, we have delivered attractive and energy-efficient lighting solutions for Telekom branches and flagship stores since 2019. One standout project is the newly redesigned flagship store in Düsseldorf. The previous space underwent a complete renovation and modernization, transforming it into a 584 m2 experience Centre with various areas for direct customer engagement. LEPEL & LEPEL developed the overall design concept for all Telekom stores across Germany. However, the lighting design which we implemented was devised by AG Licht. In line with Telekom’s core values, the project demanded the highest technology, design and sustainability standards.

A Sustainable Brand Experience

 

The brand experience takes center stage in the new flagship store in Düsseldorf. Spanning three floors, it offers private and business customers the opportunity to try out and purchase Telekom products with personal advisors available to discuss their requirements. The space includes consultation areas, sales and experience rooms, a cozy lounge, and a coffee bar. “We seamlessly integrated the flagship store into the cityscape by designing the shop windows as 'art installations,' creating a vibrant shopping experience with strong regional recognition”, explains Gerda Karal, Partner at LEPEL & LEPEL, the Cologne-based interior design and architecture firm.

The interior design was conceived around sustainable materials, such as, organic vinyl flooring and advertising displays made from recycled ocean plastic. The store operates entirely on renewable energy, significantly reducing its environmental footprint. Our smart, energy-efficient LED solutions further support this, which provides significant energy savings compared to the previous store lighting.

Smart Store Lighting

 

Lighting plays a vital role in the concept's functionality and aesthetics. Our Lenty and B.VEO track spotlights, along with Idesto and Grado. wallwasher, provide the ambient and accent lighting throughout the store. Abstractly curved lines of light mark pathways, guiding customers through the store. The luminaires are networked via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) with LiveLink lighting management system, enabling fully automated control. Individually pre-programmed, time-based lighting scenes ensure perfectly staged rooms and products, maintaining an inviting atmosphere during business hours.

Lighting Highlights

 

As with all Telekom flagship stores, the Düsseldorf store reflects its regional ties through backlit images of local landmarks, such as the Rhine Tower, the Media Harbour, and the Düsseldorf Lion. In addition, two unique lighting solutions create a wow effect in the store. Above the escalators, a "swarm" of lights suspended at different heights by British designer Tom Dixon creates a striking effect. In contrast, luminous origami cranes by artist Mahela Rostek float above the coffee bar. They are also a reference to Düsseldorf, as the Rhine metropolis is home to the largest Japanese community in Germany and the third largest in Europe. The result is a store that embodies Telekom's brand identity while reflecting Düsseldorf’s unique character.

Successful Collaboration

 

TRILUX has played a significant role in the lighting design of Telekom flagship stores in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Hamburg, each with a distinct interior design. The Hamburg flagship store was awarded the German Brand, the Red Dot and the iF Design Award, among others. In addition, we equip numerous smaller branches across Germany each year. Looking ahead, Telekom’s continued expansion presents exciting opportunities, and we are delighted to be part of this success story with our lighting solutions. Green light for our Magenta projects!
