EU directives

Industrial societies cannot be imagined without electronic devices. In view of this, the European legislative has turned towards EMC and passed respective directives.

Directive 2014/30/EU (EMC directive) as well as directive 2014/53/EU (radio equipment directive) govern the EMC properties of luminaires. The former must be applied to all luminaires. The latter is referenced where a luminaire contains components for radio communication (e.g. WiFi).

Both directives ensure the same protection level regarding EMC. EU directives and corresponding national laws only contain framework regulations. Technical requirements and testing provisions are contained in harmonised standards. EMC standards for luminaires and luminaire accessories in Europe and Germany are summarised in table.
