Safety lighting installations must be inspected and maintained regularly. This requires the appointment of an expert person. Where automatic inspection devices are used, the information must be recorded on a monthly basis. For all other systems, inspections must be carried out according to table.

In standard-compliant, automatic inspection devices, where the battery charge is monitored permanently or periodically in intervals < 5 min., manual inspection procedures are not required. Beyond that, changeover and functionality of connected consumers are inspected weekly in the case of individual batteries and daily for central and group batteries. Automatic inspection devices must report and register disturbances. Automatic testing devices for safety lighting monitoring must comply with EN 62034 (VDE 0711-400).
