> Luminaires / The enhanced concept of quality / Product quality
The relevant criteria of product quality of modern technical luminaires have changed fundamentally in the recent past. The transformation of nearly all product segments from the operation of a replaceable fluorescent lamp with its relatively robust operating characteristics to the optimized integration of highly specialized LED components has necessitated this change.
For the assessment of the quality and serviceability of LED luminaires, it must be taken into account that the data given in the technical product documentation should have been determined clearly and on a reliable basis. In particular, for the luminous efficacy and the useful life often misleading information is made in the market. These can not only lead to a wrong assessment of the product quality, but may even lead to planning errors in lighting design. For this reason, TRILUX basically uses the definitions used for the ENEC + performance marking in its documentation (see also chapter "ENEC+, identification symbol for LED luminaire performance").
A central aspect is the safe protection against damage to the LEDs by electrostatic discharges (electrostatic discharge, ESD protection) throughout the entire manufacturing process. Similar to the assemblies in computers, the LED assemblies of modern luminaires are highly sensitive electronic components. Even the smallest currents caused by an electrostatic discharge can cause predamage, which is often not immediately apparent, but can lead to an early total failure. An important quality feature for LED luminaires is therefore that in all areas after the unpacking of the LED components, especially in the areas of assembly, extensive provisions for the protection of the components are proven to be met and complied with. Any replacement of components is therefore generally to be carried out by the luminaire manufacturer, unless an exchange kit documented with an installation manual is available.
However, the insensitivity of the luminaire against electrostatic damage during operation must also be ensured (ESD, see also chapter "Electromagnetic safety, EN 61547").
Unavoidable prerequisites for achieving high-quality products with reliable serviceability are therefore
modern development technologies: CAD-based engineering and thermal simulations,
detailed tests in photometric, electro-technical, electronic and acoustic laboratories,
clear, correct and unambiguous documentation of the technical characteristics of LED products,
the use of high quality components and materials, such as Circuit boards, connection technology, reflectors, covers, seals and closures,
high-tech semi-automatic or fully automatic production processes for precise manufacturing processes,
Strict organization and equipment of workplaces for the assembly and processing of LED components according to the standard series EN 61340-5 "Protection of electronic devices from electrostatic phenomena".
Without these prerequisites, the documented photometric properties, the implied thermal properties (see also chapter "Thermal Management") and the ESD protection in the production process and in the operation of the luminaire could not be guaranteed.
In addition, the conceptual, non-material aspects contribute to the satisfactory usability of the products:
The chosen design is contemporary so that lighting systems can be supplemented even after years for any system extensions.
Luminaires are ready for connection, luminaire systems are pre-assembled.
Mounting accessories as well as tested, system-bound accessories (through-wiring, mounting components, etc.) are available.
Installation instructions are clear and unequivocal.
The readiness to deliver is high through efficient goods distribution and logistics.
