SAFETY LIGHTING

FOR SPORTS FACILITIES

To ensure the safety of participants in sporting events, EN 12193 must be observed in addition to the provisions of EN 1838. Accordingly, a certain percentage of the illuminance of the appropriate lighting class (see chapter  "Sports facilities") is required for a controlled termination of a sporting event in case of lighting failure. These percentages must be applied to the types of sports contained in table.

Safety lighting must activate immediately upon failure of the general lighting and be available for the time specified in  table. After this time, emergency lighting according to EN 1838 applies.

To continue a sporting event in case of lighting failure, the lighting level must match at least class III for the sport in question.

Table 3.41: Safety lighting in sports facilities. Illuminance in % of the values specified for the respective sports and lighting classes according to EN 12193.
